Author Advice: Difference Between Writer, Author & Both (Additional Information On Inspiring)

First off let me get this off of my chest if you are calling yourself an "Inspiring" Writer or Author then you need to change your perspective on this. Inspiring means you are Inspired to do it but haven't done anything about it like writing, publishing or any of that. You just think you can do it. Now if you have already began writing then you don't need Inspiring in front of writer because you already are doing so, same goes for author, you don't need it if you are already published. Inspiring is a false narrative in my eyes when it comes to those in the writing and publishing world. That word doesn't need to exist especially when you are already doing something about it. Now, that is out of the way on to the topic of discussions difference between writer and an author.

Writer: A writer is someone who just writes like books, poems, song lyrics, short stories, and the list goes on. A writer is someone who isn't published but just loves to write. I don't like to be called this because this isn't what I am. Though most authors still call themselves writers even though they are published. That isn't correct either not unless you are doing both because you can take up background hobbies or just to express yourself with poems without publishing them. I do understand those that can be both which I will touch on at the very end. This is all what a writer is.

Author: An author is someone who has published books. Let's say you just published your one and only book, you are an author. You are an author as soon as you hit that publish button on no matter the site. You aren't consider a writer no more once you have published that book, you are done past that stage in as a writer to be known as an author. That is the title you earned no matter how many books you publish, you are an author. This is what I call myself an Author because I am and if you have books, poetry, or anything else published then you are an Author too, you have earned that title.

Both: Now you are allowed to be both. You can write journals, poems, song lyrics and anything else as a writer then still publish books as an author. I know a lot of people who do both for a living and/or hobby. I have heard it is fun to be both an author and a writer to keep your creative mind going and also helps that you don't have to publish anything either and just keep writing to write because it is fun and easy to do without all the worries of publishing.

I will leave you with this advice. If you are a published Author, you can no longer be called a Writer and if someone calls you a Writer because you are an Indie Author then stand up for yourself, same goes for those in Vanity. All because we aren't Traditional doesn't make us any different then those that use professional tools. Stand up for yourself as an Indie or Vanity Author and don't let anyone take the title Author away from you.

Added Note: I made this blog because ALMOST every person in my feeds don't understand the difference and it frustrates me. You have to know this information, it is important on how to represent yourself. I get most want to deny the fact but you need to learn who you are whether a writer or an author. Don't be afraid to say you are an Author with however many books you have published, be proud, and say it out loud when someone denies you the fact.

Thank you for reading this.
